In an effort to bring our retailers the latest collections and emerging talent from the fashion world, we'd like to introduce stylesmart.com's Featured Designer Carolina Obregon and her exotic handbag collection.

Carolina Obregon's fashion history begins in Colombia where she studied art and fashion in Bogotá. Her fashion flair and passion was ignited on a trip to the Big Apple when she was 13 leaving the designer transformed. With her parents' blessing, Obregon applied and was accepted to Parsons School of Design where she was inpired by her fashion studies.

Upon graduating, Carolina was brought on at Jill Stuart where she was introduced and captivated by the world of handbags. Obregon tells stylesmart of her love for fashion and handbags, exclaiming "from then on I knew that within fashion my thing was bags. I continued working in the industry as an assistant designer, until I had to take a step ahead and try to do it on my own."

A bold designer, Carolina was in partnership in apparel and accessories selling to fahionable doors - Fred Segal in Los Angeles and Calypso in NYC - before she went out on her own to debut the Obregón line. Carolina's inspiration comes from her travels coupled with a bit of a Colombian influence. The past collection was born in Fez, where the designer visited for a brief holiday in "The Medina" or old town. Having lived with a generous and hospitable local Muslim family, Carolina drew on her amazing experiences and information from the "marroqunerias", which produce the most amazing leathers.

Remarking on the effect of the production, Carolina shares "it's as if time had stopped, you really feel transported back to antiquity. Well I ended coming back with a collection that I named Fez, and the style names are from the people I made friendships with. The next collection is inspired by past and present experiences involving my return to New York City once again and seeing it with a
different eye; its all about color and contrast!"
