Paris,
France - (August 30, 2002) A bright Friday
was the starting day for this prestigious
four-day fashion trade show held in Paris.
A mostly sunny day with highs reaching
into the upper seventies, the weather
was perfect!
A
'can't' miss amongst American and European
buyers, alike, the Prêt à
Porter show occupied three floors at the
Port de Versailles - Convention Hall 7
with people coming and going in either
direction. Fashion prevailed before entering
the hall. Upon arrival, my introduction
consisted of a fashion show where models
walked the catwalk sporting designer,
Paul Mizner's, creations. They were showcasing
a very smart semi-casual dress line with
color combinations ranging from black
solids to a mix of black and white.
Floors
were filled with spaces of color, style,
texture, and talent. Individualization
and creativity were at their finest! Dark
auburn and rust tones seemed to be the
predominant color that set itself apart
for my fashion eye. All color palettes
were represented, but auburn and rust
carried the fall tones. The colors presented
themselves in sheer fabrics, which seemed
to lighten and soften their dominance
all the while adding distinction to the
designers' work.
During
my visit, I had the privilege to speak
with three designers whose uniqueness
and charm caught my attention. Here's
a bit about each:
House
of Ali
Based
in Belgium with Anne Van Riel at the helm;
the company is energetic, alive, focused
on growth and developing their niche.
Ali showcased a radiant collection of
handbags, sandals, and personal accessories.
Using Penden Leaf, Rattan and other Asian
wood products, House of Ali merchandise
contrast nicely with the vivid colors
used - rich reds and blues. Quite recently,
the company introduced a men's sandal
line within the collection that is sure
to please consumers and retail buyers
alike. This resort line now offers gents
a new option for comfort and style at
a moderate price point.
Earth
Wear
This
line is brilliant and will fit right into
an American lifestyle once the company
lands stateside. The use of natural silks,
cotton, and hemp fabrics combine to offer
a relaxed look for both men and women.
Sand, ash, and cream make up Earth Wear's
color pallet with a moderate price point
sure to please. Scout Earth Wear retail
outlets throughout France on your next
trip!
Cynthia
Desser - Paris
This
is a remarkable collection of leather
and metal jewelry marked by a transitional
quality for its combination of antiquity
and contemporary design. Ms. Desser is
American born expat who has lived in Paris
for many years, now a true Parisienne.
Céline
Robert - Creations de Chapeaux
Bold,
strikingly bright pastels that are rich
in color guided my attention to this milliner.
For the very discriminating buyer, Céline
Robert is another designer to seek.
Prêt
à Porter 2002 was an inspiration
to see the dreams of talented designers
whose sketches have transitioned from
the drafting and cutting table to a realized
form.
